What Is This Service?
A testing accommodation letter is a formal document written by a licensed professional that explains:
- How a condition (such as test anxiety or difficulty concentrating) affects your test performance
- The functional limitations you experience in timed or high-pressure environments
- Recommended accommodations, such as:
- Extended time (time-and-a-half or more)
- Quiet testing room or reduced-distraction environment
This documentation is often required by testing boards, universities, and licensing agencies such as the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.
Who Can Benefit?
You may benefit from an exam accommodations letter if you experience:
- Test anxiety that worsens under time pressure
- Difficulty concentrating in noisy or shared environments
- Slower processing speed when answering complex questions
- Mental fatigue during long exams
- Trouble organizing thoughts quickly under timed conditions
This service is ideal for:
- Counseling, psychology, and healthcare professionals
- Students taking graduate or doctoral-level exams
- Individuals preparing for licensure exams (LPC, LCSW, EPPP, NCE, NCMHCE, etc.)
- Anyone seeking extended time testing accommodations
What's Included
Your testing accommodation letter will include:
✔ Clear explanation of your testing challenges
✔ Functional impact on concentration, thinking, and performance
✔ Professional justification for accommodations
✔ Specific recommendations, such as:
- Extended time for exams
- Separate or quiet testing room
✔ Language aligned with testing board requirements and approval standards
Documentation & Revision Policy
Each Professional Testing Accommodation Evaluation includes:
- One comprehensive clinical evaluation
- One professional accommodation recommendation letter (when clinically appropriate)
- One completed accommodation certification packet based upon the information available during the evaluation
Because testing organizations require documentation to be completed and certified by a licensed clinician, documentation is prepared using the information available at the time the evaluation is completed.
To ensure accurate certification, clients should verify the following before documentation is finalized:
- Examination
- Testing organization
- Licensing board or jurisdiction
- Testing format (In-Person or Internet-Based)
Important Documentation Revision Policy
Once documentation has been completed, signed, and released, it is considered finalized.
Client-requested changes—including but not limited to:
- Testing format
- Examination type
- Licensing board or jurisdiction
- Requested accommodations
- Other substantive changes
may require:
- Review of the revised request
- Preparation of new documentation
- A new professional certification
- An additional documentation revision fee
Clerical or typographical errors made by Spencer Counseling Services will always be corrected at no additional charge.
Common Testing Accommodations
We frequently provide documentation for:
- Extended time on exams (50% or more)
- Reduced-distraction or private testing rooms
- Support for test anxiety and performance-related stress
These accommodations help ensure that your test results reflect your true ability—not the limitations of the testing environment.

Submitting an intake form or payment does not guarantee that Spencer Counseling Services will be able to recommend the requested accommodation. Recommendations are made only when supported by the evaluation, available documentation, professional judgment, and the requirements of the testing organization. Approval decisions are made solely by the applicable testing organization.
Documentation Revisions
The standard fee includes the evaluation and preparation of one documentation format. Substantial revisions, additional forms, or a different documentation format may require a separate $150 revision fee.
Turnaround Time
Standard turnaround is generally 2-3 business days after the evaluation is completed and all required forms, supporting documentation, testing-organization requirements, and payment have been received. Expedited service may be available for an additional fee. Turnaround time does not include revisions requested because requirements or forms were not provided before the documentation was prepared.
Frequently Asked Questions
Significant anxiety symptoms may support an accommodation request when they are associated with a documented condition and create substantial functional limitations during testing. Eligibility and final approval are determined by the testing organization.
Documentation requirements vary by testing organization. Some organizations require a documented diagnosis, prior accommodation history, clinical records, formal testing, or completion of a designated provider form. Applicants should obtain and review the accommodation requirements for their specific examination before requesting this service.
Licensure exams, certification tests, graduate school exams, and professional board exams often require formal documentation.
Yes. If you request substantive changes after your testing accommodation documentation has been completed and released—such as changing your testing format (online vs. in-person), examination type, licensing board, or requested accommodations—a new documentation review and certification may be required. Because these requests involve new professional documentation rather than corrections to clerical errors, additional documentation fees may apply.
